Tears were streaming down Megan’s face. She felt as if she was going to be sick. It only got worse when one of the girls began whipping her with her own bikini top.
“Whip her fat ass!” Deanna encouraged. Megan yelped as the wet fabric stung her bottom time and time again.
“I saw her checking out that lifeguard,” Lena remarked. “Like she had a chance with him!”
They continued to torment her for what seemed like in eon (in actuality, the whole ordeal lasted under five minutes). When at last they were finished, Megan sank to the floor on her knees, still crying and very, very shaken.
“Don’t you go telling anyone,” Deanna instructed, showing her the knife once more. The girls snickered and disappeared.
Megan finally found the strength to get back up. She showered and dressed in her shorts and shirt. She discarded the now-ruined bikini and sought out her friends. Though she vowed to keep it to herself (at least for the time being) worry was printed firmly across her face.
“Gah, I thought I was pissed,” Des remarked. “What happened to you?”
“Nothing,” Megan replied blankly.
She zoned in and out of a conversation, replaying the attack in her mind the whole way home. Her friends asked her repeatedly if she was OK, but she would not break her silence.
Once safely indoors, Megan ran up to her room, put on a diaper and got into bed. She tried to think of something else, anything else, but the only thought that came was that she was stupid. The whole thing never would have happened if she stayed at home and left her diapers on. Maybe she really was a baby who needed to be looked after.
She had been lying awake for quite awhile when her mother came in to check on her.
“Hi mom,” she said in a toneless voice.
Nancy immediately knew something was wrong.
