She put her hands under his armpits and lifted him straight up out of the playpen with his toy still dangling from his mouth. Pauline carried him from the room out of my sight, leaving me to consider the consequences of what we had done. Now momma was convinced that our minds had regressed along with our bodies. I couldn’t see how it would have made much difference in the long run, but it still disturbed me that it had happened. What had possessed us to start sucking on our toys like that? Would we start engaging in other infantile behaviors? So far neither Gino or I had peed or pooped in our diapers, but I couldn’t see how we could avoid it.
