Carrie sighed. “Maybe,” she said. “I dunno.”
“You want to at least tell me what’s going on?”
She shook her head.
“Fine. I’m sure I’ll be able to get it from them…”
“I was with a boy,” she explained. “My friend Chris….”
“…And Mom caught you?”
“We weren’t even doing anything!” Carrie protested, sounding more like Megan than either of them thought imaginable. “We were just fooling around. Trying stuff. It’s not like we were having sex.”
Megan raised an eyebrow. If it was sex, she could understand why her parents were a bit outraged. But if not, then what? Weed? Please nothing worse than that…
“Trying stuff? What kind of stuff?”
Carrie mumbled something and Megan asked her to repeat it.
“S&M type stuff,” she said in a tiny, humiliated voice.
“You’re too young for that,” Megan said, half-jokingly.
