“I get it,” Carrie said.
“We don’t know what you have in mind as far as this is concerned and quite frankly we don’t want to,” Nancy told her. “Just know what we don’t want: you getting hurt. That means…”
“I know what it means,” Carrie said.
“If I see so much as one cut or bruise on either of you,” Drew informed her. “Then you’ll be grounded until you’re 18, I kid you not.”
“Can she do it?” Megan asked.
“Yes,” Nancy said uneasily. “Just this once…for now.”
“We don’t like it,” Drew added. “And we don’t really approve. But we are willing to give it a try.”
Carrie was overjoyed. She hugged Megan, hugged her parents and kissed each of them on the neck. Despite the tensions of the day and being placed in an uneasy predicament, they couldn’t help but smile.
