As she didn’t have his number, the only way to gage the situation was through Ted. Of course, there was no way to ask about Ron without Ted knowing what was going on in an instant. And how would that make him feel? She had come close to calling on several occasions; only to back out at the last second when she pondered the potential mess she was getting herself in. Ironically, only after she had given up any notion of success did she ultimately find the courage to make the call.
