On the way home we stopped at a grocery store. Pauline said that she needed to buy some personal toiletries and asked me to wait in the car while she went in to make her purchases. She came out carrying a large paper bag and put it in the trunk without letting me see what was inside. Pauline had an enigmatic smile on her face as she drove the rest of the way home in silence. She took the bag out of the truck and carried it in the house refusing my offers to help. She made us a late lunch and suggested we take a nap. I agreed happily, thinking she really meant for us to play bedroom games. After lunch she told me to watch the news while she got the bed ready. I smiled in anticipation at the thought.
