Emily never shut the door for stuff she didn’t care about other people seeing, like brushing her teeth or drying her hair, so if the door was shut, it automatically meant she was either using the toilet or the shower. If Hailey had been attempting to hide what she was doing, she would have made the point to always shut the bathroom door, run the sink, and use air freshener, and always take at least enough time as it would normally take her to poop, even when she was doing mundane things that people wouldn’t care about. That way, it would not be obvious what she was doing in the bathroom. This only added to the notion that Emily wasn’t the brightest girl in the world, Hailey thought.
