Tony had taken up jogging when he quit smoking, a decision he was extremely grateful for as he walked up the stairs of the Hand house. His heart rate was going haywire with anticipation and fear. If he were 15 pounds heavier or still puffing regularly on cancer sticks, he would probably be headed for cardiac arrest just then.
Emma was waiting for him, of that he was certain. If she hadn’t been expecting him already, the creaking floors would surely have announced his presence. The only question that remained for Tony was whether he would be ready when she presented herself.
